1.The game of Scrabble(R) is a classic educational word game, popular with generations of word lovers. You can use the classic board game or Scrabble(R) software. When playing with youngsters, they'll tend to come up with simple words until they start learning new ones! This is a great vocabulary builder, as well as helping to hone spelling skills. Keep a dictionary on hand to resolve any disputes and increase the educational value of the game.

2.Many words in the English language are derived from Latin. Pick up a Latin dictionary. Make a list of Latin roots, then see how many words you can find in English which use these roots. Go through the Latin prefixes and suffixes, choosing a few each day to add to your lists. You'll be amazed at how helpful this educational word game will be in helping you understand the meaning of English words previously not in your standard vocabulary. 3.Get out your dictionary and open to a random page. With your eyes closed, slide your finger down the page and stop at any point. Write that word on a list. Do you know the meaning of that word? If not, write down the definition, as well as the part, or parts, of speech where that word may be correctly applied.

4.If you do know this word, list it, along with synonyms for that word. A combination dictionary and thesaurus makes easy work of this educational word game. You'll find that synonyms describe nuances in meaning for a single word, which gives more precision to your meaning. For example, the word 'tempting' lists as synonyms the words alluring, beguiling, enticing, inviting, seductive and tantalizing. Now write a sentence for each synonym in an appropriate context. For example, where a woman might be described as 'alluring', you probably wouldn't use alluring to describe the Christmas goose. Tempting or tantalizing would be more appropriate. Mastering the nuances of words and using them in context appropriate sentences helps refine your communication skills, while building vocabulary.
