Causes and Help For Chronic Muscle Pain
While back, hip, and knee pain are the most common causes of discomfort as we age, these things can happen at any time. More common, though you may not know it, is chronic muscle pain. At times, you may mistake muscle pain for something else. There are many reasons why your muscles may be protesting, and also, many things you can do to get rid of some of the pain. Depending on what you do, you may be aware that this type of long term pain can be something you are going to be prone to or deal with at least once in a while. Know what you can do to get some relief.
Pulls and strains are common causes of chronic muscle pain. If you are in sports, this is probably something that you have quite often, and you know that you can do a lot of damage if you are not careful. While these things can be painful, they do not have to be chronic if you take action right away. The first thing to do is to rest the muscles and then use heat and ice therapy on them. If the muscle is in spasm, this is a great way to loosen it up so that the pain diminishes at least some. You can then see what your doctor recommends to relieve the rest of the pain and keep it away. You may need physical therapy in some cases.
Chronic muscle pain may also come from a lack of something in your diet. If you find that you are having a lot of muscle pains and cramps when you are sleeping at night, you may have a potassium deficiency in your diet. You could get some relief by eating a banana each day and remembering to stretch out your legs before and after you have gone to bed for the night. You can also take a supplement for potassium, but make sure you discuss this with your doctor so you are taking the right amount. Remember, there is such a thing as too much of a good thing.
If you are dealing with chronic muscle pain that seems to have no root, and that is unidentifiable, you may be dealing with a more serious condition. There are some diseases and conditions that come with muscle pain and soreness that are not always easy to pinpoint at first. Just one of these is fibromyalgia. While this can be a problem, it does not mean that is what you have. It is just one possibility. If you are dealing with chronic muscle pain and other problems, write them all down so you can discuss what is going on with your medical doctor.
Do not feel as if you have to live with chronic muscle pain. Though some conditions are hard to diagnose and have no real cure, there are some methods that can give you at least some relief. You do not have to live with pain in its most acute form. Talk with your doctor about what you are feeling, when you feel it the most, and anything else that is going on with your body. Give detailed accounts of your lifestyle, as that may help pinpoint the problem.
